Poppy memorial for Remembrance Sunday
The College will create a poppy memorial to honour members of our community who died during the First World War.
The Rev鈥檇 Dr Paul Dominiak, Dean of Chapel, said: 鈥淥n Remembrance Sunday we will recall the cost of war and pray for peace. To mark the Armistice centenary, the College will place 158 poppies in Cloister Court next to our war memorial, one for each member of the College community who died in the First World War.
鈥淭he Remembrance Day service begins at 10.55am in Cloister Court by the war memorial. After observing the traditional two minute silence we will proceed into the Chapel for a service of music, readings, and prayers. All are welcome to the service.鈥
Everyone is welcome to visit the poppy memorial, which will be in Cloister Court in the centre of College between Friday 9 and Monday 12 November.
The College鈥檚 archives team has commemorated the First World War by creating a Roll of Honour and publishing a profile of each man who died in the centenery month of their death.
The men were aged between 18 and 50 when they died and came from all over the world, including Australia, Canada, France, India, South Africa and the USA.
Many went back to the Front repeatedly after being wounded. Bernard Vann, the College's only Victoria Cross recipient, returned five times in all. Some survivors went on to fight in the Second World War, such as Wilfred Davies.
