Grant to boost choristers’ musical education

Choristers in the ͷԭ Choir are set to expand their musical education thanks to a generous donation towards instrumental tuition.

A new endowment has been created using a £20,000 grant from the , which will be officially presented by the charity on 17 October at Evensong in our 12th Century Chapel.

The Choir of ͷԭ is unique across Cambridge or Oxford in being open to any boy from local schools who has vocal potential.

Including probationers in training, there are 25 choristers aged from seven to fourteen. They enjoy a busy schedule of rehearsals, services, recordings, tours and concerts.

Richard Pinel, Director of Music, said: “The Friends of Cathedral Music carry out such important work supporting choirs around the country, and we are so grateful for their generosity. This new endowment will give a huge boost to our work, supplementing an existing fund for music lessons and increasing the support we can offer to boys and their families.

“We’re proud to offer a rounded musical education and opportunities to our choristers. Learning a musical instrument enriches and aids their understanding of the music they sing with the Choir, and is also a fantastic skill to learn.”

The next formal chorister auditions for boys aged between seven and nine will be held on Sunday 23 June. For more information, please contact the choir administrator.
