Four Jesuans to step out at Twickenham for rugby Varsity clash

The men's rugby Varsity Match on Saturday 25 March is not to be missed, with four Jesuans in the University of Cambridge squad.

Congratulations to Tim Andrew, Max Loveridge, David Holdroyd, and Charles Kantolinna, who have all been selected for the team taking on 'The Other Place' at Twickenham this weekend.

This will be Max's third, Tim and David's second, and Charles' first Varsity Match.

Tim Andrew, who is studying Natural Sciences, said: "I'm feeling very excited ahead of the match - I think we've got a good squad and I'm excited to show what we can do. I'm much less nervous than last year, having been there before.

"Training-wise it has been a pretty full-on commitment for two terms, as well as gym work throughout the holidays. We train four times a week and gym three so it really does take up a lot of our time."

David Holdroyd, who is studying Medicine, agreed, saying: "We've got a strong team this year, and we're looking forward to running out at Twickenham on Saturday."

Max Loveridge, who is studying for an MEng in Chemical Engineering, added: "This will be my third Blues Varsity Match, and second at Twickenham. After two tough losses, this year is a real opportunity to set the record straight and get one over on the other place.

"As a group I think we are feeling in a really good place following a good term of preparation. We've become a very close-knit squad and I think that will definitely be shown on the pitch. Personally, I am very excited for another opportunity to play at Twickenham, it's something you grow up dreaming of and is an incredible feeling."

Charles said training was an intensive 10-12 hours a week.

He added: "The teaching faculty in department have been patient with me, even throughout all the casts/various injuries of the season.

"As the only debut Jesuan, as well as being the youngest player in the team, I'm certainly quite nervous about the day but also excited for such an occasion. There's a great group of guys in the squad this year, coming from all different countries and prior backgrounds, so it's been great to make friends and connections you otherwise wouldn't get."

We wish Tim, Max, David, Charles, and their teammates every success after all their hard work, and will be cheering them on this weekend.
